Celebrating International Women's Day 2019
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th around the world every year, with thousands of events taking place throughout the month to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equity.
2019’s theme, #Balanceforbetter, seeks to highlight how collective action and shared responsibility for driving a gender-balanced world is key to future progress.
This year at The George Institute, among other events and activities, we decided to celebrate the day by highlighting the research and operational achievements of women from across our four offices in Australia, India, China and the UK.
Throughout the following profiles, each woman talks about what attracted them to the medical research sector, their proudest achievements so far and their future goals and aspirations.
They also provide advice to other women thinking about a career in research, voice their opinion on what’s needed to increase gender balance in the sector and beyond, and reflect on what ‘balance’ means to them, both personally and professionally.
We hope this exhibition raises awareness of the critical role women play in medical research globally and provides inspiration to the next generation of women researchers.
Let’s listen to what they have to say:
